I've been trying some plataforms for the website and some new apps. Trying to optimize the web site for the business as part of my studies. That's why you have been seen different pages and blogs and other things. So bear with me for a few weeks until I can decide what I'm going to do. The domain will remain no matter what. The tatting will still be awesome. New things will come also. July will be a special month; will be my 25 Tatting Anniversary and I'm planning an event. So stay tune and hang on until I sort my brain!
I made these brooches for a Mother's Day event at mom's church. I can't remember exactly from where I got the pattern, but it's probably from a NeedleCraft Journal early 1900's. I have been using this pattern for years and know it by heart. It's pretty easy and you can easily change it to your taste.
Here is the ds counting I use. Shuttle only. Leave a tail of 3 or 4 inches at the beginning. First Row: R: 5-5-5-5. R: 5+ (to previous ring) 5-5-5. Continue in this fashion until you have five or six petals. Tie. DON'T CUT. Second Row: Make a lock join to the center of the ring of first row. R: 8-8-8-8. Make a lock join to the center of next ring. R: 8+ (join to previous ring) 8-8-8. Repeat in the same fashion until you got joined to every ring on the first row. Tie ends again and cut. I hope you enjoy the pattern! Tarn is a “yarn” made of T-shirt. There’s also plarn, which is made using plastic bags. I wanted it for tatting so I thought that tarn would work better. For this I used an old T-shirt. Actually VERY old! One of my uncles gave it to me like 15 years ago. The T-shirt is size 3X, so I thought it was going to give me a few more yards. First you got to cut it into strips. I searched several YouTube videos on how to make this. I followed the instructions of this video. There are a lot more. But I liked her voice. : ) After the Tee is cut in strips like this, you have to stretch it. I grab it in one end and I ran my thumb through it. After all was stretched I did it a couple more times. This is not a bowl of spaghetti. It’s the result of the stretching. Now it looks more like a tube. At this stage is ready to use in whatever way you want. Remember I told you it was a size 3X? Well, I got a whooping 34 yards. Could have been more but the Tee had a print almost up to the middle of the back and I had to discard this part. The printing doesn’t let the fabric stretch nicely. To tat the butterfly I filled my Tatsy with a few yards. I didn’t measure it. But I think it was like 3-5 yards. Because I know that this was not going to be enough to finish the butterfly I decided to make SCMRs instead or regular rings. It was a very interesting experience. The strip keeps the form and it is a bit stretchy. It’s like tatting with elastic. Yes, I have tatted with elastic. I recommend it only for the insane! LOL The pattern I used for the butterfly is a common one. I have been using this counting for decades. Here is the pattern: R: 10 – 2 — 2 – 7 – 3. R: 3 + 5 – 8. R: 8 – 5 – 3. R: 3 + 7 – 2 — 2 – 10. Tie the ends for the antennas. As the result of the experiment was pleasant I’ll be making a series of works. Now I need Tees to strip. Well, here we go again! I have had a lot of blogs. The last was on Blogger and Multiply and thou I loved Multiply the company closed and I lost interest of blogging. But I think now is a good time to start again. I’m studying at a Foundation focused on developing business for women. I spent almost a year on the waiting list and started on March of this year. It will help, hopefully, develop my business.
What is my business? Tatting lace! Tatting is a lace made of little knots called double stitch or double knot. I’m not going to give you a tatting history lesson. >u< What I’ll try to post here are the daily tatting I do, may be some experiments and a few personal ramblings. So grab a chair, a nice cup of coffee or chocolate and enjoy the ride! |
