These are faceted gems with flat backs. I got them from a stash of my dad's wife a long time ago. I have seen them in stores like Walmart and other local craft shops in packages. They come in several sizes. They are plastic and have 2 small holes that can use to be sew into the project. I used the smaller size for this project.
Note: Although I give the instructions to the motif with the red beads on the photo, the photos I used for the instructions are the one with the pink beads. There's a very minimal difference between the 2 motifs. |
Instructions:
Fill shuttle with beads in this order:
5 seed beads, 1 bugle, 3 seed beads, 2 bugles, 3 seed beads, 2 bugles, 3 seed beads, 2 bugles, 3 seed beads, 2 bugles, 3 seed beads, 1 bugle. On the ball insert the 15 seed beads rest.
Having all the bugles and seed beads (except the last 5 seed beads) on hand start a ring.
R: 3 (bugle, 3 beads, bugle) 3 - 3 (bugle, 3 beads, bugle) 3 - 3 (bugle, 3 beads, bugle) 3 - 3 (bugle, 3 beads, bugle) 3 - 3 (bugle, 3 beads, bugle) 3. Reverse work.

Tip: When making the beaded picot leave just a little of thread loose on the picot. This will help when you need to make the joins onto the picot on the second part of the motif.
Make a mock picot.
CH: 5 - 3. Join to the space between the 1st bugle and the 3 seed beads.
* CH: 3 (slide 3 beads from ball and one from shuttle) 3. Join to space between 3 seed beads and bugle.
CH: 3 - 5. Join to picot on ring.
CH: 5 + (to previous picot) 3. Join to the space between the 1st bugle and the 3 seed beads. *
Repeat from * to * until the end. Remember to use a folded join to join the last chain with the first one. Join to the base of the ring. Cut and hide ends.

Decorate the center anyway you want. I glued a "bling" to the back of the motif and to a ring finding and made a pretty ring for my birthday.
